EDLD 5363- Debriefing/Reflection Multimedia and Video Technology

It has been a pleasure working with such talented and committed group members. I am highly grateful with all of them for the quality of work and collaboration that went along with this project. The challenging part was getting started. Although we were given lots of flexibility to work with a Core-Content Area, we were a bit skeptical about where to begin. Once we had an idea set, the whole project went through smoothly. I was just concerned about dividing the work load; it was a bit challenging to do that. It seemed as if we all filled the qualifications to be responsible for every part. Overall, one idea lead to another and we worked together to add to the project. Through this experience I learned quite a lot about multimedia and video technology, and because of this gained knowledge I have started creating my own multimedia and videos. There is just so much creativity to it, that it engages me in creating more. As was the case with our group video, we completed the first video with enough time to take a pause and review it for revisions. Working together and having the ample time, allowed us to collaborate and work in improving our video. We ended up revising it 4-5 times, before we said, “this is it”. Every time it just got better and better. Our group constantly (almost daily) collaborated through email and/or Google docs, we shared tips, ideas, concerns, and even praised each other’s work. Personally, learning about and creating multimedia and videos will help me teach other teachers about the advantages of this media to enhance our teaching and engage our students in the lesson. In addition, our students would also benefit from learning about multimedia and video technology, because it could be a way to assess their knowledge and understanding.

EDLD 5363- Web Conference Reflection

Having constant communication between student-and-student, and student-and-teacher is essential in today’s 21^st century highly technological society. The advancements in technology facilitate communication at all levels, it makes communication become unlimited. Having the opportunity to participate in the constant web conferences through my Lamar courses, especially with the EDLD 5363 (which had numerous web conferences), has expanded my knowledge, understanding, and my philosophy of learning/teaching. The web conferences helped me better understand the class content. In addition, the teacher, as well as many of my “student” colleagues, assisted in answering any of my concerns. The conferences also eased my frustrations, when in doubt because I was able to see that others had the same struggles in some of the same areas. Throughout the many web conferences that I have attended, everyone has been very supportive in sharing tips, ideas, comments, and collaborating at a professional level. In addition, the teachers are always making themselves easily accessible through scheduling flexible web conference times, as well as by providing students with their cell phone numbers, among a few. Having this type of communication through our web conferences has helped me as a student, but also as a teacher. Many of the strategies and techniques that I have acquired through this type of collaboration and communication have been adapted within my classroom, with my students and parents. Web conferencing engages students towards learning and creates a great learning environment. Furthermore, having the web conferences recorded and reposted for references has had a great impact on my learning. As it is, sometimes we might not get the main idea the first time, but having the web conferences reposted and easily accessible 24/7 enhanced my learning and understanding of the materials and engages me in the learning.
When I first started this class, EDLD 5363, I was a bit overwhelmed with so many scheduled web conferences. Later did I realize how beneficial and essential they were for this particular course. Many times, I found myself rereading the web conference posted on our reference file on Blackboard for a better understanding. Each conference had a clear focus on a particular topic, although all questions or concerns (regardless of what week we were working on) were answered. Overall, the web conferences are a great way to create that classroom atmosphere that we have in our own classrooms with our students. It makes the online experience more serial to what we are usually used to experiencing behind a four wall classroom. The web conferences expand our ability to learn through collaboration, cooperation, and communication at a whole different level.
