Video Reflection
The first two videos were a great way to introduce the professor for this course and to give me an overview of what the class learning objectives and expectations would be. Having the other three videos that explained the three learning theories (Constructivism, Connectivism, and Cyborg) was very benefitial for me. I was able to see each expert while they explained the theory, I listened to the experts give out detailed information, and I was able to write down key notes that helped me understand the concept. Using my senses along with technology helped me make a connection and facilitated my learning experience.
Constructivism Theory explains that a learner relates new ideas with what s/he already knows. A successful learner is s/he who begins with a pool of ideas and embeds the new ideas, and as a result expands why they already know. In the Theory of Constructivism, learners are using their prior knowledge and constructing new knowledge by adding to what they already know.
Connectivism Theory explains that the nature of knowledge is changing. Now days our learners have a different need of knowledge, a different need of learning. We rely more on a Networking Model Learning, were we rely on computers and networks to build a connection and gain knowledge. The connections that we make to these sources become our learning; knowledge is really about the distribution that occurs across a network. There are two components of a network: 1) Internal Nero-Networks: it is how our mind creates learning itself in a network manner, 2) External Component of a Network: the learning that we do when we make connections with each other and other individuals; this would be a more learner-controlled component. Knowledge (Internal Network) is rapidly evolving and it is important to continually stay current as knowledge changes. Social (External Network) interaction and connections is also an important component, it enable us to stay current and to continue to stay current with our knowledge and learning.
Cyborg Theory has been researched and experimented by Professor Kevin Warwick of the University of Reading, England, explains that Cyborg Theory could be a reality that might change human evolution. Humans would be implanted with a chip that would enhance their brain; it would enhance communication and memory. The future of human kind would be to link the human brain with technology in order to upgrade the human species. Information would be able to be downloaded into the brain; the chip would also increase human stimulation and give us extra senses. Cyborg Theory could be described as “Artificial Intelligence,” it could surely be the future of human kind in just a few years. It could change our Educational System, our Medical World, it could change the way we communicate with each other. Cyborg Theory could definitely be a future possibility.
Reading Reflection
This first weeks readings were very informative and supported this weeks objectives very well. They were an extention to what was explained about each theory on this weeks video’s. Each artricle, chapter gave more in depth information about the Learning Theory’s and the advantages of using technology with instruction. In addition to acquiring knowledge from the readings, it helps me when examples/scenerios are given throughout the reading. Having examples/scenerios helps me form a visual of what really happens in the classroom. In all of the readings for this week technology advances and the use of technology in the classroom were highly emphasized. As educators it is important to use technology as a tool to engage student interest, facilitate learning, and expand their knowledge. Technology is changing the way we learn and the way we teach, and we must evolve with it in order to succeed.
